Rural activities with children in Tuscany and Umbria - EAT LOCAL!
"Fattorie didattiche" is a project that involves farmers throughout Italy who are interested in giving young people (and adults!!) the opportunity to know more about the production cycle and everything that takes place before food reaches our tables. It differs from the Anglo-Saxon concept of a "petting farm" in that these are regular working farms on which cattle are raised and/or crops are grown. The farms are often organic and/or family run and offer a warm and friendly environment in which visitors can learn more about and directly experience what is such an important part of our everyday life - we are what we eat!! Each visit usually includes a tour of the farm and tasting of its products.
